Poliochni Archeological Site
Poliochni was one of the first organized societies in Europe and was the first “Parliament” in the world.
The Archaeological Site of Poliochni is located on the east coast of Limnos, on a hill protected by the bay of Vroskos. In the Early Bronze Age, it flourished so much. Thus it is now considered the oldest city in Europe with an early form of social and urban organization. It was a fully organized society. Well-designed streets were discovered between houses, water-gathering pipes and meeting squares for residents. In the center of the settlement is a large area with stone benches. This is an indication that there was the first “Parliament” in the world. Today it is kept in the National Archaeological Museum of Athens. It has many elements in common with the famous “Treasure of Priamos”, which Henry Slyman found in Troy.
